目前市场上主要分两种气动方式，机械式气动避震和电子式气动避震，不用明说，光听见电子这两个字，就知道技术含量比较高。
价格上，比机械式气动避震要高，但是稳定性上没有机械式这么可靠。

气动避震上各有一个弹性橡胶气囊，气囊其实是一个密闭的压力缸，里面充满了惰性气体和油气混合物。腔体内的压力要比大气压高几倍甚至几十倍左右，再利用活塞杆的横截面积小于活塞的横截面积，来产生压力差，使活塞杆运动。
因为气动避震是比较精密的部件，有气罐装置，不适合在颠簸路段进行剧烈的驾驶。
